In Rainbows

Radiohead is one of my favorite bands and like most fans, I'm very excited for the new album In Rainbows. It has been almost four years since Hail to the Thief was released and a lot has happened since. For one, they no longer have a record label, so they have complete control over how they distribute their music.

So now, instead of a typical internet download at $10/album (like iTunes) they are actually creating a download program where you name the price you want to pay for the album. If you want to, you can pay absolutely nothing and you will still get the link to download it on October 10th. I just registered my "pre-order" download on this website but will probably buy the discbox (the album w/ a bonus CD and a hardcover book) when it's available.

4:30 AM

I woke up at 4:30 AM to catch a 7:00 AM flight to Albuquerque, which I finally know how to spell. Above is a photo I took while waiting for my flight. For a long time, the only sunrise I knew had Quervo mixed into it. I'm currently in my "fight sleep for entertainment" mode, as I'm enjoying the premiere of the office. We'll see how long this lasts.

Asterisk branded baseball

Marc Ecko bought Barry Bonds record-breaking baseball in an online auction then set up a site for fans to vote on the its fate, whether it should have an asterisk (*) or not. Today he announced the decision to brand it with an asterisk won out over the other options which were sending it to Cooperstown unblemished or launching it into space.

I didn't know about any of this until today, otherwise I would have tried to vote on his poll. You can read the story here.

Scratch wizards

They always say, no matter what you do there's someone who is younger and better at it than you are. A lot of scratch DJs probably feel that way after watching these 5 and 8 year olds.

Colorado hip hop

The Procussions is one of my favorite hip hop acts. They blend the sound and spirit of rap's golden age (think Tribe, De La, etc) and issues of today. They are originally from Colorado Springs and I think a few of them went to CU. Anyway, one of their members, J. Medeiros went on to put out one very nice solo album. If you're a fan of hip hop music, The Procussions, or just want to support quality Colorado music, check out his album "Of Gods and Girls."

Inconvenient truth: Write headlines again?

Nice article about how young writers belong to an endangered species of people who can't write headlines. Ouch, hopefully I don't fall into that category.

Read it here: Inconvenient truth for copywriters

Hi, how are you?

A few months ago, I watched a documentary called The Devil and Daniel Johnston.

It's about the genius/mentally ill Daniel Johnston, an outsider musician. Most people know about him through this drawing/t-shirt, which Kurt Cobain would frequently wear. It's a fascinating film, check it out.

"Just" music video

I set my iPod to shuffle this morning and "Just" by Radiohead made a welcomed, random appearance. Radiohead has a prolific catalog of innovative music videos, but this one still remains my favorite. It was directed by Jamie Thraves.

Pearl Izumi

I have no idea if this is a coincidence or not, but the latest headline for Pearl Izumi by CPB has a striking similarity to the older Onion headline: "Nation's Joggers Sick Of Finding Dead Bodies."

Similarities aside, kudos to both for a nice universal truth.

Bullets

I thought this was a nice concept for anti-gun violence. Also, strikingly similar to the old Korn music video directed by Dayton/Faris. Great nonetheless.

I'm not goth

As the title of my post may indicate, I'm not goth. In fact, I can't even stop making fun of the goth subculture. It's even on my list of things to eventually make fun of in advertising (more on that later), but as much as I may make fun, I can't stop loving this design that threadless recently reprinted.

Now only one question remains: am I goth enough to wear it? (more on that later also).

They say you can't wear white after labor day

But if you're this guy, you can wear a fanny pack, long hair, and low cut cargo shorts with a brush in its back pocket to maintain the aforementioned hair.

Here's one of my favorites pictures from my labor day weekend in Estes Park, CO. Keep those locks beautiful, man.
